Vaportight fluorescent light fixtures are used in places where the light source is sealed form the outside elements like water and dirt. It creates high illumination while providing a wash down capability. This is especially needed in food service lighting, agricultural lighting, industrial and other places where the light will not be compromised by the surrounding environment. The lens is made of acrylic which means it won't turn yellow like fewer inexpensive forms of plastic.
