Metal halide light bulbs are a HID source for many indoor and outdoor lighting applications.
Metal halide open rated bulbs have a brilliant white light which is also very energy efficient. They're often used in color critical areas where the yellow color of high pressure sodium simply won't do. These lamps can be typically burned in almost any position and the medium base is the same physical size as a regular bulb base. Be aware that these metal halides must be run with a correct ballast and fixture that is matched for the wattage. These also work with fixtures that have no covering or are completely open. These have a special sleeve around the arc tube which will prevent any damage from violent shattering.
