An opportunity for better lighting too.
Energy savings is essential, but so is the quality of light that you’ll get from going to new efficient 4 foot LED lights. Almost all of these lights are rated for at least 50,000 hours life and either use something like a T8 LED tube light or use white LEDs in a particular arrangement inside the lamp. Even though these are a little bit more sophisticated than a strip light, people often refer to them like that or some shop light. That’s because there are so many different applications for it. Getting good lighting while saving energy is a perfect opportunity right now. There’s never been a time that’s been better for getting better energy efficiency while still getting the maximum light that you can get. Color can make all the difference.
Another consideration when looking at this type of light is something we call color temperature; it’s that designation that tells you exactly what kind of color the light has. Typically there anywhere from 2700K to 5000K in most cases but sometimes that varies as well. The 2700K is like warm white, the 3000K is like soft white, 4000K is cool white, and the 5000K is like noontime daylight. It’s a personal preference as to what you want for your situation. If you're going to use these 4 foot LED lights in the home, many people prefer the lower color temperature because it gives a warm, inviting color to the area. But for many commercial lighting applications, people prefer the 5000K because of its bright white light and good contrast. It’s much easier to see under 5000K, and many different types of industrial facilities will use that out in a plant so it makes sense that they may want to use that for their 4 foot light fixtures as well. If you need more information as to what color temperature might work best for you, we do have some spec sheets with that kind of information. The other choice when choosing a color temperature is what kind of LED you want to put in the light, do you want it to be a T8 light tube or would you like it to be an LED without any tubes. When you use the type with a tube, you will get flexibility in the future with a color temperature that you can change and possible greater light output with new 4 foot LED lights. With the LED array, you don’t get that choice, the color temperature you choose is the one you’re stuck with although it does offer a dimming capability which may be necessary for some people. So the choice is yours, and it’s really about an aesthetic consideration for any kind of room that you may be trying to light.
