Price Each: $72.00

Item Number: BLF30516
LED 18 watt corncob light bulbs are a 120/277 volt, 70 watt HID replacement providing the light you need with extremely long life. Ideal for enclosed outdoor light fixtures. You probably won't have to change these bulbs for many years while still providing excellent illumination. Because this is rated at 120/277 volts, there are many applications that can now use LED lighting that couldn't before. This would include security lighting, post top lighting as well as retrofitting flood lights. There are so many places that these can be used to make the light fixtures more energy-efficient. It sometimes also called a corn cob light as it resembles that with its rows of LEDs up and down the light bulb. This is a LED replacement that is easy to implement by simply screwing it into existing sockets that are 120 volt up to 277 volt. If you’re replacing something that had a ballast previously, you will need to remove the ballast and directly wire the socket to voltage. It’s bright white light will do a better job than even existing lighting that you may have already. For those of you interested in a warm white light, we do have those as an option if you need that. And for some people they want to have something that’s in between something like a cool white, for that we would refer you to this 5000K light because it’s going to work better in an outdoor nighttime situation. Even though this is not always the optimal thing to do, high bay light fixtures could incorporate this as well. You can certainly do that if it applies to your situation, but we have better alternatives now that will work better in that type of lighted environment.

Some general information.
At BuyLightFixtures.com, we provide the best energy efficient LED corn light bulbs on the market today with the most extensive variety of color and wattage choices. People like it because it’s a bright light that is going to replace HID lamps as well as high wattage incandescent or compact fluorescent. This is a very energy-efficient type of light, and the savings could be in the hundreds of dollars throughout the life of this lamp. Once you get past the payback time, which is the time it takes to recoup the cost of this lighting retrofit in electrical energy savings, you will get substantial savings that you’ll see every month as a real reduction on your electric bill. This comes with either a medium base or mogul base depending on what socket you have now. It’s a very easy retrofit for those of you who have straight 120 volts that you screw this into. For those of you who have higher wattages or are replacing HID lamps, you will need to disconnect the ballast and wire the socket directly to power. It’s a straightforward way to get to LED technology without having to replace all the light fixtures.

Savings and payback time.
And this is something to consider if you have relatively new light fixtures, why replace them altogether when you can retrofit them and have the same result? If you’re unsure about how much energy savings you can get from this type of retrofit, download our Excel energy saving spreadsheet that’s on the left-hand column of our website. You can input all the current lighting system information with this particular product as the proposed lighting, and you can see exactly how much you’ll save in electrical cost. We also have a figure for how much maintenance savings that you’ll get as well. It’s no small thing, saving on maintenance costs is significant and sometimes can outshine the electrical savings you may get. Having hard to get at light fixtures always brings in extra cost for lifts and other types of equipment. Not having to rent that material makes all the difference in the world as far as price goes. In that spreadsheet, you will also see how much energy savings you get and the payback in years and months depending on your usage. For people using their lighting 24 hours a day, the paybacks get to be very fast sometimes in a matter of months. For most people, paybacks can typically go anywhere from 1 to 5-years depending on the outlay that they have initially. Keep in mind that you can also take advantage of electric utility rebates that offer extra incentives for going to more efficient lighting. Not every electrical utility does this, but some do, and that can help reduce payback time when you purchase one of these products from us.

Light output is important.
People often ask us about the light output, is it going to replace HID lighting in parking lots or high bay lighting? The answer is yes with the kind of LED corn cob technology that’s been improving over the last several years; it quite easily replaces existing HID lighting. When LED corn bulbs first came out there was some question as to whether it was going to be a suitable replacement, but the lumens per watt now have increased to the point that there is no question it will do a great job replacing those higher wattage energy wasting HID lighting like the ordinary 400 watt metal halide. Another issue that we get is when people ask about the lighting effect that it has compared to what they have now. These LED light bulbs are designed to put a light in 360-degree beam angle operation. They not only have the strips of lights down the side but also LEDs on the top which are going to illuminate upward to fill out something like an outdoor globe or some other kind of light fixture. You can also rest assured that these are going to operate in any temperature that you may have even including wintertime temperatures. These will start at a full light output, and you’re not going to have any problems because of cold weather. Cold weather isn’t so much a problem with different types of lighting as excessive heat, but these are made to dissipate heat very well and last very long. That’s always been the problem with different kinds of lighting in the past; heat is often the biggest enemy of any electrical component. Most of the time these are used in commercial buildings where you have outside lighting such as globe light fixtures or various types of shoebox lighting or wall lighting as stated before. And if you are a significant user of this type of item or you’re looking to buy a larger quantity of these, make sure to let us know because we have special pricing for larger amounts.

It's a good long life.
If you are going to use LED corn lamps in a commercial building situation, it’s best to do them all at once because then you have a consistency throughout the whole area especially if it’s in a parking area. Sometimes the colors won’t match up to what the old HID lighting was in so doing it piecemeal is not advised. Making it a project can help reduce costs because you get it all done it once and then you won’t have to do any real maintenance on this for many years other than regular cleaning which most light fixtures need anyway. Because these have such a high average rated life, about 50,000 hours, they’re going to last many years to come. In a commercial situation, they may last 15-years before you have to replace them again. And that also means that you’re not going to have to do much maintenance at all. That’s going to be an excellent saving that we talked about earlier that you can input into our spreadsheet to get a good idea as to how much savings you can get in maintenance. These can also be used in a home lighting situation where people have maybe bear sockets something like that in a garage or a work area, and you need a lot of light at a very low wattage. This is a good solution for that because all you need to do in most of those cases are screw it in. Often people have an incandescent or a lower wattage compact fluorescent that they would like to replace so they can get more light for the same amount of watts. It’s an excellent way to go for even those type of situations, and people have had excellent results where they’ve seen a substantial increase in the light levels that they have. This is becoming one of the standards for higher wattage LED lighting today in the market. And you’re not going to have to worry about whether it’s something that’s going to go obsolete because this design is trendy and will be available for many years to come. The way it produces light in every direction with the linear LED points of light does an excellent job for most types of area lighting.

Which one should I use?
If you’re unsure as to what LED retrofits would be best for your application, we can do a layout that will tell you what you can expect as far as footcandles go for an area. But for most people, you can use the simple estimates when replacing HID or incandescent lighting. If you are replacing a 200-watt incandescent light then you would want to have about 20 watts of LED light, it’s a 10 to 1 ratio of incandescent wattage to the lower LED light. If you’re replacing something like a 200 watt HID metal halide or high-pressure sodium you want to be at about 50 watts of LED, it’s about a 4 to 1 ratio. The same applies to compact fluorescent or any linear fluorescent as well, that 4 to 1 ratio. It’s these simple rules that can help you use correctly the right kind of LED replacing existing lighting that you have. In that way, it’s a straightforward way to estimate how much light you’ll need and how much you need to spend. LEDs aren’t magic; they can’t just replace mass wattages with wishful thinking. You must stay within specific guidelines to make sure that you have a successful lighting project. And for us, we want to make people aware of the total picture of what they’re trying to do.

How can we help you today?
If you save all the energy in the world, but yet the lighting suffers, then you’ve lost may be more in productivity and security then you gain with electrical savings. We believe that excellent lighting is the goal while still getting energy efficiency. We think that both of these need to be in balance and just going for one or the other could be a detriment to either. We’ve seen some lighting projects that have been out there where people were in a rush to go to LED without really thinking it through. They were in such a mad dash to get energy savings that they didn’t know about what the effect would be. Those early adopters suffered as a result with a reduced lighting project. That’s something we never want to be a part of, and we want to help you avoid that as well. Call or email us if you have any questions about anything you see on our website and particularly about this product whether what base type you need or color temperature. We want to help you have a successful lighting project saving the maximum amount of energy that you possibly can.
