Ignitors for HID Ballasts
HID (High Intensity Discharge) lighting ignitors are devices that generate a high voltage electrical current to initiate the arc discharge in HID lamps, such as Metal Halide (MH) and High Pressure Sodium (HPS). The ignitor acts as a kind of "spark plug" for the lamp, creating an initial electrical discharge that allows the lamp to light up. HID lighting ignitors are typically located in the ballast compartment of the light fixture and they are connected to the lamp holder. They are used to ignite the gas mixture inside the lamp, and create the intense light that is emitted. HID lighting ignitors are often used in outdoor and industrial lighting applications, such as streetlights, parking lots, and warehouses.
