2D 38 watt fluorescent light bulbs are different from circular bulbs in that they have a more rectangular shape. If you have a light fixture that has these, you won't be able to use any other kind of light bulb in it's place. It's a really unique light bulb and comes in several wattage although the wattage are not interchangeable. The color is a warm color temperature appearance so it works well in homes and in multi-housing unit's to give a comfortable inviting appearance. It has a ballast that operates the 2D 38 watt fluorescent light bulbs only. That ballast is usually an electronic ballast and very compact. These lamps aren't exclusive to General Electric and no one else makes them right now although that may change in the future. This is the mid range wattage for this type of bulb and probably one of the most popular because of it's compromise between size and light output. It's perfect for many types of fixtures that are surface mounted and have a low profile. We still sell fixtures that utilize this lamp and it's very reasonably priced. Make sure when you replace the lamp that you have that the wattages correct as there's not a lot of difference between this one and the larger one that is 55 watts.
