General information.
At, we want to provide you with the highest quality T5 light bulbs that are going to last for a long time and take care of your lighting needs into the future. There are two different basic types of T5 light bulbs, the ones that operate on an electronic ballast, and the older style which operates on magnetic ballasts. T5 refers to the diameter of the fluorescent bulb which is inch. Although these have been around for a long time, the modern version operates on an electronic ballast. This would be anything from an F54T5, F28T5, F39T5 or F24T5 which are the most common types used today for general lighting. The older versions were made for generally special-purpose lighting and not for general area lighting.

Higher output lamps.
Because new generation T5 bulbs operate on electronic ballasts, they’re very energy-efficient which made them a perfect choice over the last 10 years or so for any kind of energy retrofits or new light fixtures. They were a simple tube light bulb but developed for greater lumen output for fewer watts than the old T8 lamp style. They were made to be fluorescent tubes that would replace high output lamps most often which is the linear fluorescent that was used for many decades prior to that. It’s still a very valid form of light as many light fixtures are made with this type of lamp for the intended use. T5 lamps were the first lamp and ballast combination used for fluorescent high output high bay lighting. This led to a whole new wave of lighting efficiency that still goes on today for commercial lighting and gynasiums.

The right light color makes the difference.
There’s no talking about T5 light bulbs without talking about color temperature. These come in some of the widest variety of color temperatures that you can get with any kind of fluorescent today. You’ll have everything from a 2700K warm white, a soft white 3000K, cool white 4000K, 5000K noontime daylight and the 6500K daylight color. They’re all the same basic T5 tubes it’s just that the phosphors are different with colors that will best enhance your interior space. So if you want something that’s going to have a warmer color that is more inviting and has a comfortable look, then you probably want to use the lower color temperatures. If you want something that’s going to match up with outside daylight than the higher color temperatures would be good to use. Most commercial and industrial lighting utilize the 5000K because it’s so easy to read under and most companies believe that it increases the productivity of employees. The light output for all of these is essentially the same, it’s just that the color is different. The color is a subjective choice and that’s one you can make for your situation.

Saving money is a wonderful thing.
With the advent of more energy-efficient light sources such as LED tube lights, you’re seeing some of these replaced now with T5 LED tubes. It’s a good choice if you want to save more energy and possibly qualify for a number of different rebate programs that electrical utilities have. LED lights will give you the same amount of light for less wattage and so this is where you’ll get the best possible savings. Some people don’t just change the tubes, they will go for a whole new light fixture if some of the incentives are really good or their lighting system is particularly old. If that’s the case we have a complete line of lighting fixtures in LED and for some situations with the payback being so good, it might make sense to go to a completely new fixture instead of just retrofitting to an LED bulb. If you want to know how much you’ll save on going to an LED T5 light bulb, we have a free download on the left-hand column of our website that is an energy savings calculator in an Excel spreadsheet format. It will give you all the information that you need to do a simple comparison for what you have now and what you may be thinking about going to as far as in more efficient lighting system. All you have to do is put the existing data as to what you have right now and what you might want to buy from us that is more efficient and it will tell you the savings and the payback. So you can get an idea of what might work best for you in your situation as far as an economic consideration.
