Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs - CFL's
Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) are a type of energy-efficient lighting that uses a small tube filled with a gas and a small amount of mercury vapor to produce light. The light is produced when an electrical current is passed through the gas and vapor, causing them to emit ultraviolet (UV) light. This UV light then excites a phosphor coating on the inside of the tube, which converts the UV light into visible light. CFLs are more energy-efficient than traditional incandescent light bulbs, as they use less electricity to produce the same amount of light. They also last longer than incandescent bulbs, typically from 6-15 times longer. However, they contain a small amount of mercury and thus are considered hazardous waste and should be disposed of properly.
