General information.
LED technology has increased dramatically over the past several years, and one of the reasons why it has is the great flexibility it gives design engineers. Not only do you get form improvements in light fixtures, but bulbs have also gone through some change too. For general lighting, people often choose a regular LED bulb with the small LEDs all over it. It looks good, and it will create a lot of light, and that’s what most people use with these bulbs typically. But another kind of LED bulb is LED filament bulbs which are going to give you the look of an antique light while still being very energy-efficient. This is mainly an excellent product to use if you’ve got fixtures that are open and you want to get the aesthetic appeal of an incandescent light.

Get the proper antique look.
Don’t be fooled by their good looks, these bulbs are very energy-efficient just like any other LED. The light output is generally lower than the more conventional type of LED bulb. But for most decorative lighting applications you’re going to get enough light, and it’s going to look great in any light fixture it’s used. We often see people using these in a kitchen or a dining room or certain kinds of marquee lighting. The applications are generally light fixtures that are open, and everybody can see the bulb. This type of lighting is aimed at the decorative side of the marketplace. If you got a light fixture that you want to look Victorian or last turn-of-the-century, then this is a good light to use, and it looks so much like an incandescent that people won’t know the difference.

It's hard to tell the difference.
A lot of people think that just because these are incandescent bulbs, the colors not going to be right. They think it’s going to be too bright like a lot of LED lamps were at the beginning. But that’s not the case with these; they have the same color temperature as the old antique bulbs from a long time ago. It’s a great look, and once again it’s hard to tell the difference between this and the older incandescent. One of the other benefits that people get is an extremely long life as these bulbs can be rated up to 25,000 hours or more. The initial investment in these higher-priced bulbs is offset by energy savings and not having to replace bulbs all the time. If you use these in a commercial building application, you’ll find that you have less time spent on unnecessary bulb maintenance which was always a problem with the global bulbs used for signs.
