277 Volt Light Bulbs - 50 Watt

Price Each: $6.89
Item Number: BLF30136
277 volt light bulbs rated at 50 watts can be used in a 277 volt circuit to get the light you need whether it be in a home or an industrial application. Many times people want to have the look of a regular light bulb but in a 277 volt version. These are only available in frosted finish. These bulbs have a rated life of 2000 hours, so they should last for some time in almost any lighting application. This higher voltage bulb is often used in industrial facilities because of circuits that were wired for this voltage and never stepped down to a 120 volt. Although this can be a little unusual, you do see situations where there might be bare bulbs or sometimes down lights that need to have a bulb rated at this higher voltage. 277 volt is very common for commercial properties, but if you're unsure of what you have its best to give an electrician to verify before you start plugging in the wrong type of light bulb. Not only does this have the correct voltage for those of you who need it, it comes in this 50 watt version for mid-range light output if you're still using this incandescent type of light. The medium base is the exact same thing as a regular household light bulb base, so these can be screwed into almost any fixture that you may have. If you were to put these into a standard 120 volt socket all you would see is a glow as the filament is not being driven to its proper rating.

General information.
Power for any electrical lighting system can either be one of two for most applications, either 120 volts or 277 volts. And for the convenience sometimes in commercial or industrial use, people wired up fixtures that generally are 120 volts to 277 volts. So basically they were stuck with 277-volt screw-in light bulb fixtures, and so they needed to get the 277-volt version of a light bulb. And for many years what people used and still use today on many occasions are 277 volt light bulbs whether it be a CFL bulb, and incandescent light bulb or now with LED corn light bulbs. With the advent of LED technology, it’s become more accessible to replace existing 277-volt high wattage lamps with something that makes a little more sense and gets you more light. For example, if you had 100-watt incandescent, you could replace it with something like a 10 to 15 watt LED. Most of the time when people are looking for something like this they have to have something with an E26 medium base or an E39 Mogul base. This also applies to certain types of outdoor lighting where people had post top lamps that were powered by 277. Although this is how things were done in the past when someone had a high voltage circuit, and they didn’t want to step it down to 120 volts where it was very inconvenient such as an industrial situation, this is what they had to do. So your options have opened up into a whole grouping of light fixtures and light bulbs that are going to serve you better in a 277-volt environment.

Saving money with this type of lighting.
Of course, we have the standard incandescent screw in that is a 277 volt but some of the LEDs will work well to replace those and save you money. It could be a matter of saving energy, but it’s also a matter of convenience having something that you don’t have to think about the voltage too much. If you want to make this part of an energy-saving project that you have, there are some excellent paybacks today on your investment and many electric utility rebates. This may even be a good time to consider going to an entirely new light fixture based on his higher voltage which is commonly available. In any case, you’re going to save energy, and we want to help you discover how much you will save. On the left-hand column of our website, we have an energy savings calculator in the form of an Excel spreadsheet. This will tell you everything you need to know comparing one type of lighting to another. It will give you all the essential savings and payback for your situation. You’ll need to include some data from your existing system including the wattage, the kilowatt hour cost and how many hours a day that you’re running it. You can compare it to one of the selections that we have here, and you can know exactly how much you’re going to save. It’s not an exhaustive audit or anything like that, but it will give you all the information that you need to make an informed decision. There’s never been a better time to take a look at saving energy with lighting because now you can get the best lighting possible while still reducing electrical consumption. It’s a winning formula all the way through, and there seems to be nothing but positives in going to new lighting. There are even programs that we can put you together with for financing your investment through energy savings. Call us if you want more information about that.

Color matters.
When you’re looking to change to something that’s more energy-efficient another thing that you need to keep in mind is the color temperature that you might select. Some of the lower color temperatures are a warm white type of light, and the higher color temperature is something like noontime daylight. The higher the color temperature such as 5000K is something that people prefer many times in commercial lighting or industrial situations. It helps people to see better being very good with contrast, written words on the page and produces light the way our eyes naturally use it. Artificial lighting is a relatively new wrinkle in human history, and we were made for our best vision during daylight conditions. So it all depends on your situation and your preference as to what kind of color temperature you want. If you want something that is going to match an incandescent color, then that low color temperature is going to be the way you want to go. That provides a warmer atmosphere and is sometimes very good for outdoor post lighting instead of the stark white of daylight. It’s more like that incandescent color were all used to and is a more inviting color.
