Price: $106.07
Item #: BLF88079

175W Metal Halide Ballast kit's to replace existing core and coil ballasts for this low wattage lamp. This is probably one of the most common types of lamps used in many situations where you have a small or mid-range lighting fixture that could be used in recessed lighting, outdoor lighting and in some cases retail lighting. This will operate either a medium base or a mogul base 175Watt metal halide; it doesn't matter. They are electrically the same, and the ballast will run each one regard fewer of the base they use. If the lighting fixtures aren't coming on it all, you may want to check the capacitor start method first as that is a lower-cost component which sometimes does fail over time. This could save you from buying a whole new ballast kit, but if it's been many years you can almost bet that the entire ballast probably needs to be changed. It's a simple change that almost any electrician will do and make sure that you have the voltage tapped correctly on the ballast and that you're sure of the voltage you have feeding the lighting fixture. This ballast and lamp combination has been one of the most common that has been used in the industry. The reason that is it was used in smaller lighting fixtures for security or accent lighting. It still works great for many types of situations where a maximum amount of light is needed in a smaller space. It is true that some people are changing over to LED and we have lighting fixture choices to make that change. But for those of you who are going to keep their metal halide lighting system, then this ballast is one of those consumable components that need to be changed from time to time. If you have something that's newer in a lighting fixture, it could be that the capacitor has gone bad. That's the weakest link in the system, and sometimes all you need to do is replace the capacitor. It's a much cheaper option. But for those of you who have older lighting fixtures where these may have been in service ten years or more, most likely you need to replace all the ballast components with the new metal halide ballast kit. These ballasts are heavy, and they can be a little challenging to maneuver with when you're replacing them. We always encourage you to use a licensed electrician to replace this for you as it is a bit more difficult than replacing a fluorescent ballast. All the hardware that you need to replace your existing faulty ballast is in this kit, and it doesn't matter what kind of lighting fixture you have. Sometimes people will even lower the wattage that they have in a lighting fixture, and for that, you can use a different ballast in a different lamp. If you have any questions about which one you may have and are unsure about whether you need to replace them or not, give us a call because we've seen just about everything and probably have the answer for you.

Ballasts are an essential component.
At BuyLightFixtures.com, we have a wide variety of metal halide ballast kit's including metal halide, high-pressure sodium, and mercury vapor. All of these are in the category of HID lighting and one of the consumable items within that category of lighting is ballasts. There are a number of different things that can go wrong with the ballast over time. It could be something like the capacitor, the igniter or the core and coil itself. With the capacitor, it loses the ability to hold a charge large enough to start the arc of the lamp. Sometimes heat becomes a factor which is typically one of the problems that contribute to a ballast failure. We have all different wattages for various types of metal halide lighting from the very lowest 50 watts all the way up to 1500 watt. Understand that these different ballasts can only be matched with one wattage, they don’t run multiple wattages from the same ballast. Many of you in maintenance or if you’re an electrical contractor know this, but some people that we talk to don’t, so we just want to make that clear if you’re unsure as to whether you need to change the ballast and get one of these kit's. Please give us a call or email as we have a lot of expertise in ballast replacement and have probably seen about every different type of problem. Changing a metal halide ballast kit is really not too difficult although there are a lot of wires and there are just a few things you need to make sure that you do correctly. You want to make sure all the wiring is correct and that it’s connected to the correct voltage on the ballast.

Some ideas to save money.
If you have many of these metal halide ballasts going out at the same time, it might be time to consider going to a more efficient source of LED lighting with either a simple retrofit or a complete lighting fixture change. There’s never been a better time to take advantage of electric utility rebates and the prices on these products that we have have never been more reasonable. The performance is excellent and you could have lighting fixtures that no longer need a ballast and that’s one less thing to have in a maintenance program. If you would like to know how much money you can save by switching to more efficient LED lighting, we have an free downloadable XL spreadsheet on the left-hand column of our website. It’s easy to use and all you have to do is put in existing data compared to what you might be changing it to. It will not only tell you how much money and energy are going to save, but it will also tell you how fast the payback is going to be for your particular situation. Keep in mind that the more hours per day that you run any of these lighting fixtures, the faster the payback will be. If there are any electric utility rebate incentives that you could apply, you have a place to put those in as well and that will reduce the payback even further. It’s good time to take a look at that you have an older type of lighting system that you’re doing a lot of maintenance on.
