Self ballasted mercury vapor R40 light bulbs are an older technology of HID lighting but is still an easy retrofit for incandescent bulbs. This mercury vapor operates on a standard 120 volt line. It gives off a very white light because of the deluxe white coating and the light itself. These are great for areas like outdoors where a white or light will work better. You will not need to have a ballast to operate self ballasted mercury vapor R40 light bulbs, all you need is an existing incandescent socket.
