Germicidal fluorescent light bulbs are a germ killing type of bulb that are known as G8T5, G15T8 and G30T8. They're used in food handling, restaurants, hospitals where killing of airborne germs in needed. It's important to keep an environment as close to germ free as possible, especially in hospitals where disease can spread. Special fixtures house these and are not to be exposed to skin or eyes as they can damage both. It's critical that it stay out of view so no one gets hurt or gets a UV burn of some kind due to exposure. It comes in several lengths most commonly, but also has some applications in compact fluorescent types of bulbs as well. There's many choices for all the kinds of light fixtures these are made for. You should only use this in an approved germicidal fixture and keep it shielded. How do you know what kind of germicidal light bulb you have? Look at the stamped lettering on the side of the bulb and it will be clearly marked. You will never see these without that mark because it's so important to install and have the right replacement. In most cases, you will see a G at the beginning of the code or it will have word that it is germicidal if it doesn't.
