PAR46 flood light bulbs for many kinds of specialty lighting applications. 

Probably one of the more unusual types of lights you might run into are the PAR46 flood light bulbs. They're often used in specialty lighting such as transportation lighting, but they've also been used in some marker lighting. It's a rather large bulb which has side prong connections making it fairly unique among ways to make an electrical connection. They're used for the reliable connection and the very bright beam these produce. The optics are very effective making them a natural for beacon or transportation lights. PAR46 flood light bulbs have a very powerful beam of light in both the medium flood version and the very narrow spot as well. These lamps are large, 5.75 inch diameter at the reflector if you have any question about the actual size of the lamp itself. 

 

The lighting applications for the PAR46 flood light bulbs are numerous in transportation and aviation. The fixture must be made for this lamp in order to use it. Most of the time we find people using them in specialty lighting fixtures or or on equipment which needs to shine with intensity. These have a very sturdy construction and can take all kinds of punishment that might be related to objects in motion. The wattages that are available are 150 and 200 watts in Sylvania, GE or Philips. Make sure that whatever fixture you're going to use them in is rated to take the correct wattage and match it to the wattage there on these bulbs, not to mention the side prong base. 

 

With a side prong base, PAR46 bulbs are a perfect solution to get an intense light for places where being seen is of the utmost importance. It's common for these types of applications and you'll find some of the beam spreads to be medium flood and very narrow spot.
