With the advent of superior halogen lighting technology, MR11 halogen light bulbs have been one of the most reliable, small halogen lamps on the market today. They emit a very white light which gives off a wonderful color and light and shadow effect.  These lamps are very small, only 1.4 inches at the opening of the reflector, but they produce wonderful illumination and have great beam control.  That's why they been the choice of many retailers using them in their stores to highlight product in display cabinets and cases.

   

MR11 lamps come in a variety of voltages but the most common is 12 volt used in track lighting in homes and in retail stores. Many times when people speak of MR11 lamps they assume that they are always a 12 volt version. Now they come in many different voltages including 6 volt and some choice of bases too. That's why many manufacturers are also providing new MR11 GU10 lamps for use in those kind of systems also.  Most of the type that have a much sturdier pin configuration that will absolutely give a positive contact better than even the traditional pins of a MR11 halogen light bulb.

 

It can be a little confusing as there are so many different variations of these lamps, but MR11 bulbs are very distinct between the different types.  Always remember the things that matter the most are the wattage, the beam spread and the pin configuration.  If you know these things then you can determine easily which one that you have right now.  All of them come with a dichroic coating which allows for better light output and heat that goes out the back of the lamp. One of the most popular in the line is the FTD or FTC lamps in a 35 watt configuration.
