GE Lumiline light bulbs from BuyLightFixtures.com.

There is one major manufacturer left for Lumiline light bulbs and that's General Electric. These are the type that have the disk ends and come in either white or clear coating.  Sometimes people get the mistaken notion that these are a fluorescent light, but they're not, they're just a long linear incandescent.  These are somewhat similar to the very popular Linestra lamps, but they are totally different in how the plug-in.  The GE Lumiline light bulbs are a simple shape and are often used in places such as furniture, under cabinet lighting and even in bathrooms.  These are the ways they've been used in the past and many of the fixtures that house these are very old.  The good news is that these are still available and we have them in 30 watt, 40 watt and 60 watt versions.  For some people, they might be looking for the ends that clip on for these, but those are no longer available.  They haven't been on the marketplace for many, many years, so it's important to replace these carefully so as not to break those end caps.  These aren't known for very long life, so it would help to have many on hand in case they do burn out on occasion.

Many people have seen these used in bathrooms mostly but they have other applications as well.  In the past, they've also been available in a side prong version, but we only carry the disk end version that you see here.  The reason they been used in bathrooms and specified by architects is that they have an excellent color rendition and they are very flattering to skin tones.  They are a beautiful light and the quality of the lighting that comes out is excellent.  It's very soft, not harsh like many florescent type of lamps are. Many people don't like the short life, but they love the excellent color that these will put out.  GE Lumiline light bulbs come in several wattages including the longest one which is the 60 watt version.

Lumiline light bulbs are still a popular item today because of the excellent color that they put out that's perfect for certain applications.  They're really aren't any architects will continue to specifying this anymore with all the fluorescent choices.  But you may not be able to change the fixtures, so these lamps may be all you'll be able to use in certain applications.
