Double contact halogen light bulbs (DC) for recessed or high ceiling applications.

This bulb is much like other standard halogens, but it has a special base that has and push and turn base.  The actual name for these are double contact halogen bulbs, but many people refer to it the way they put it into the socket.  These lights typically have been used in many applications where high illumination is required.  The double contact halogen light bulbs are very common because of this need for high light output.  These have similar characteristics like a lot of halogen lamps where you can't touch the quartz glass, because if you do, it will cause all the shorter lamp life.  Most people are familiar with these with several bases such as minican (E11 or MC), double contact (DC), candelabra (E12) and even an E14 European base.  The heavy filament structure of these lamps makes them a more vulnerable to things like vibration which causes are shorter life.

Because the light is very white and intense, it's perfect for certain kinds of outdoor lighting at night or inside a home where certain construction needs high illumination.  We carry these in many wattages and there are choices of voltage as well.  You'll find them to be as low as 50 watts and as high as 500 watts.  Very high ceilings require a high wattage to properly illuminate the space and get enough light to reach the floor.  You'll often see these in auditoriums, churches and other kinds of general meeting areas.  That's not the only kind of application, there are also flood lights that use these where a positive contact and maximum light control is needed.

It can be a little confusing with all the different choices there are, but it doesn't have to be at all.  There are just a couple of things to keep in mind when ordering these lamps.  First of all, you need to know what the wattages are and usually that's listed somewhere on the base along with the voltage.  The other thing to determine is the base.  These bulbs could be the same wattage, but they have a different base as was mentioned before.  So if you have the DC base correct and the wattage, you'll be able to select the right one.

So no matter what kind of double contact halogen light bulbs you may need whether it be 50 watt or 500 watt, we should be able to meet your needs. If you're really not sure about the lamp itself for the fixture it goes into, or if you need a fixture that uses these, we would be happy to help you.
